King Tut

Passing through a bunch of styles and hooking them together into an insane meld of music that surpases any expectation you have for music. Animal Collective, except alot more lo-fi, and recorded in a bedroom or some place very cozy like home. King Tut had a run in with thesixtyone a while back, but now that the initial wave has died down I decided I'd post something from them.

Their tunes have a happy flow that jumps from folk inspired guitars to experimental electronics. Also, their lyrics blew my mind with bits like:
"the mothership is comming down
see right there it's landing now
don't run away, don't run away
we gotta represent the humans
if they blast us all to hell
then atleast we can go to hell
together, together "
song : Mothership

This song is really spacey, and happy. It has a regal sound to it, like they're using really old instruments, backed by a banjo or something else earthy. Enjoy the video:

The Harlem Experiment

I had m4a's of this sitting around for a long time. This was a rediscovery of sorts, but it's been really fitting summer music again. Really jazzy and bluesy, a little folksy.

Listen to this, and if you dig this, buy it. It's really cool sound from people that came from the same neighborhood but raised in many different styles of music.

There's no doubt that this music will appeal to a lot of people, it's good on many different levels going from latin jazz styles to some blues and funk. Play it loud, open your windows, share it.

MGMT - Kids

MGMT made it big last year with Oracular Spectacular. I felt like posting the multitude of interesting covers of their songs.

First off a cover of Kids, done with a ukulele:

Now, a really strange cover that I found originally on Hipster Runoff. The fantastic iPhone cover:

If you're intrigued, there are alot of cool things to find on youtube done with the iPhone.

And thanks to Australian? band The Kooks, a fun guitar cover [plus accents] Enjoy, this is one of my favorites:

The guitar gives it a very earthy feel.

Bonobo

Sometimes when you lay down you don't want to hear the night time noises of your home. Sometimes you need something that's just interesting enough if you pay attention that it relaxes you.

You need something that will aid in that slow crawl of consciousness to sleep. Background music to day dreams and slipping states of consciousness. Trip-hop accomplishes this, originally produced for "chill out" clubs. Imagine being almost incapacitated, this music is what you hear as your peripherals spin.

Bonobo is a solid choice in this kind of music. Listen to it as you fall asleep and you might treasure the time from when your eyes shut til you are unconscious. He hasn't released new material lately, but still is a definitive part of Trip-hop music. As always, enjoy:
